The Act of Killing.

Pakshet!

Anong kaganapan? The almost total extermination of the leaders, members and sympathizers (even those simply accused of being so) of the Communist Party of Indonesia (PKI). Conservative estimates place the total deaths at 500,000 people, with some historians even claiming 1M+ people murdered.

Pero what bears sharing is HOW the story was told — the director convinced the actual perpetrators to do the acting!

Opo. Kakaiba talaga!

Actual members (now quite old) of rightist para-military and vigilante groups (even village youth gangs) that did the killings tell their story of why, when, where and how they committed the murders.

And get this, sila rin mismo ang nagrere-enact nung mga pag-patay, sa paraang gusto nila — kaya may straight drama kunwari, may mala-musical, at may mala-action film ang pagsasadula.

And they were quite proud of what they did. Grabe!

And that, probably, is the main reason why this is one of the most chilling films I have ever watched. Hindi masyadong pulido yung acting itself kasi hindi naman sila professional actors, pero it was their experience that was harrowing.

The way the killers reminisced about…

  • what their feelings were when they abducted, tortured and subsequently butchered their victims
  • how their victims reacted upon finding out that they were to be killed
  • how they disposed of the bodies, or the pieces, depending on what method of killing they employed
  • how good they felt after the murders and how they looked forward to the next ones.

All these painted a stark picture of exactly how inhuman humans can become once you mix fear, intolerance, lies, ideology, religion, prejudice and hate together in one setting.

I pray that such a thing never happens again ever; not anywhere, not to anyone. ๐Ÿ˜ฆ

Napoles to me…

… is merely the most recent face of a problem that has been plaguing our country for decades — yung problema ng katiwalian na sobrang gahaman at walang takot.

ย Well, bahagi nga rin pala yun ng problema. Pero kulang talaga yung dating nung salita… hindi kayang i-convey yung baho… yung kahayupan… yung kawalanghiyaan…ย yung kawalan ng puso na involved.

napoles-mugshots

Para sa akin, the more apt description of the problem would be “sobra-sobrang kawalan ng konsiyensya” — i.e., a total lack of conscience among these corrupt officials and kababayans of ours. This sets them apart from those na tinaguriang “corrupt pero may pakinabang naman.”

Don’t get me wrong; I’m not saying na kapag “may pakinabang” ang isang kawatan ay excused na yung mga kalokohan niya. Far from it! They are just as guilty of the crime as the rest and are just as deserving to be punished. Nabanggit ko lang sila to contrapose with the even worse kind of thief.

Siya na kaya ang huli?

Don’t bet on it.

It’s gonna take more than simply abolishing the Pork Barrel to sort out this mess our country’s in.

Kawawang Pilipinas. Totoo nga yung kasabihan na “a country’s main resource are its people.” Pero in our case, mga kababayan din natin mismo yung sumpa. ๐Ÿ˜ฆ

While watching PNoy’s SONA last Monday…

… andaming bagay ang dumaan sa isipan ko. Siguro dahil andaming sabay-sabay na nagaganap sa paligid leading to the SONA itself.

  • May kategorya bang “over-dressed” for a SONA?
  • Bakit parang sintunado yung Choir?
  • Magkano inabot yung bill for food and drinks?

In fact, since 2007, hindi pa ako nakaka-boto ni minsan! Akalain n’yo yun?

Woohooo!!ย See you soon, PCOS! Don’t let me down! Kaya mo yaaan!

In fairness… mas maliwanag pa din ang Metro Manila…

…kaysa North Korea!ย ๐Ÿ™‚

I mean, kahit ganito ang kalagayan natin bilang isang bansa — sobrang laking gap between the rich and poor, rampant corruption at all levels of society, tumitinding cynicism especially among the youth, pagkawala ng good values, etc. — it’s a miracle bakit hindi pa din tayo kulelat sa mundo in terms of development.

Something about our country is still working, it seems.

Kaya ‘wag nating payagang mawala pa yun… rather, let us ensure that whatever there is that is good about the Philippines increases and reaches every single one of ย us Pinoys.

This coming May 13 Elections, we can do something.

Let us VOTE WISELY, mga kapatid.

On the ongoing Sabah Crisis…

May trayduran bang nagaganap?

May mga nang-udyok ba?

Haays.

Gan’to na lang. I’ll just register my position regarding the Sabah Crisis via this image:

Yet another reason why totalitarian states suck.

This is the Korean Peninsula seen from outer space (via a NASA Satellite image). Guess which part is ruled by Kim Jong-un and his cabal?

And it’s not just the obvious lack of development that’s glaring; there’s also the cyclical famine, a nationally-cultivated (nurtured, even) xenophobia and paranoia, and a general lack of freedom.

China’s not looking too hot, either ๐Ÿ˜ฆ
