Inside the Belly of the Beast — a day tour of the BNPP

Last Jan. 31, I had the good fortune of joining a Guided Tour of the Bataan Nuclear Power Plant (BNPP) at Morong, Bataan. The tour was part of an Energy Security Conference being held at Subic Bay on that same day.

To say na kakaiba yung feeling kapag nasa loob nung nuclear plant is putting it mildly. First off, it was the nearest I ever got to the BNPP. Past attempts — several years ago, when I was still an activist-student — only got me to the main gate. But that’s another story.

Secondly, I felt like I was literally transported back to an earlier time — the 1970’s to be exact. Kasi nga yun yung panahon nung sinimulan ang construction ng BNPP. To be fair, “state of the art” nga yung technology ng BNPP… state of the art noon. Pero hindi na ngayon.

Proof ba ‘kamo? Tingnan ninyo yung Control Center ng BNPP — di ba parang eksena sa isang lumang Bond / Agent X44 / Weng-Weng film? 🙂

Bossing, choppy yung signal. May text ba ‘tong landline mo?

  1. bechabygollywow! museum na dating nyan

Taroogs — actually, mareng kengks, may pending proposal talaga to transform the BNPP into a museum. May panukala din na gawin siyang tourist spot (parang yung ginawa sa isang Nuke Plant sa Germany) na venue ng extreme games.
