The Church and State are EQUAL.

Opo, you read right. In the Philippines, the State and the Catholic Church are definitely equal… as in, these past few days, They’ve, the both of them, managed to PISS ME OFF to an equal degree!

Wag na nating pag-usapan pa yung tungkol sa gubyerno kasi, frankly speaking, with Gloria’s SONA only a few days away, the air is heavy once again with the scent of BULLS#@T!

That, at least, I expected from government.

But the Church?!

Juspupaya naman! How is wanting to protect the health of women, especially mothers, Anti-Life?!

How is responsible parenthood, family planning and sex education, Pro-Abortion?!

And how does threatening to withhold communion to legislators (and individual advocates) supporting the passage of the Reproductive Health Bill contribute to the Church’s image as a caring and loving institution?

  3. parang si padre damaso ano ha. there is absolutely no separation between state and church in the philippines. i see no logic in family planning and reproductive health being cast in the same light as abortion. main problem is, noone wants to hold the church to a debate because they might get ostracized. i see this issue as an archaic way of dealing with a modern problem.

Taroogs – agreed, alitaptap… pero the same can be said about the church — may biases din sila that color their appreciation of the opinion of lay people (especially if that opinion is contrary to theirs)

have a heart, guys, and know why the Church is saying this. the Church has a very logical explanation for this, the type of explanation which Juday can’t explain in a 30-second TV ad. it has something to do with John Paul II’s theology of the body and the 50th anniversary of Paul VI’s Humanae Vitae. if you guys got time to spare, read these two very well-written documents. you’d be surprised how the Church’s stand actually makes sense. and very modern and scientific to that.
    hwaw, napainglis bigla ah.
    God bless!

    – hey, brotherutoy, somehow i suspected that we’d be of differing opinions regarding this matter πŸ™‚ still, we’ve agreed on many other issues in the past — issues like respect for the beliefs of others (and for the images they consider holy), etc.

And i also agree with your dig at Juday. hehehe.

I’ve added the links to Humanae Vitae and Theology of the Body here in case someone visiting this thread is driven to read them because of your appeal.

I tried reading the Humanae Vitae myself but, sadly, the beautiful words failed to move me.
Maybe i was just too busy juxtaposing the “ideal” (His Holiness Pope Paul VI’s words) with the actual (grinding poverty, “guilt education” masquerading as “sex education”, overpopulation, etc.)… or maybe it’s just me πŸ™‚

The list of topics under His Holiness Pope John Paul II’s Theology of the Body, on the other hand, just plain overwhelmed me. Mahaba-habang basahan yun. hehehe.

So i’ll just defer to the opinion of those who did read it, people who, like me… are both catholic AND pro-choice.

    Peace.

  9. Istimalosep!

    Taroogs – bok… you ha! πŸ™‚
